Nowadays is impossible to think
about a house without access to internet. You can see on the street people
selling these “connections packages” with super cheap promotions. Internet is
part of your life. Internet is a drug.
According to Cambridge´s
dictionary the first definition of drug is related to any substance that you
consume. Consequently global policy do not consider internet as a drug because
it is not being consumed by your body.
On the other hand, studies have
shown that you spend 70% of your daily hours surfing the internet. The third definition
of drug, according Cambridge´s dictionary, is related to anything that makes
you dependent on. You may think that the Internet is not being
“consumed” literally by your body. But internet dominates your brain. In theory
is being consumed.
In conclusion, I really consider
that something is wrong. If we spend more of the half of our day online. I
think global policy should take some actions in some way. This is beyond the
actual “illicit drugs” (that people consider). Internet is a silence, powerful,
and even dangerous drug.
